Librarians: Week day afternoons. Volunteer librarians check out books to patrons, help them find materials, process books, and perform some simple record keeping. Shifts are three and a half hours. Ideal for someone who would enjoy working in a cozy library with prople who enjoy reading, research, etc. Great opportunity for a Senior. Training is provided. Board Member: The Interfaith Compeer Program has an opening for a new Board Member.The Compeer program matches trained, caring volunteers with adults in Mental Health Treatment Centers as supportive friends.

Buddies for Stroke Center Clients: The Cabrillo College Stoke Center needs volunteers to become "Buddies" for their new clients. After training, "Buddies" help the new clients become oriented to the center and its programs.

Senior Outreach Peer Counselor: - The Family Service Association of Santa Cruz needs mature volunteers in Santa Cruz and Watsonville for its Peer Counseling Program. Volunteers provide in-home supportive counseling. Volunteers must be able to give 5 hours per week. Bilingual, bicultural volunteers are encouraged to apply.

"Friends for the Mentally Ill;" The Interfaith Compeer Program needs volunteers to become a "friend" to a Mentally Ill Person who is in treatment. They meet for one hour a week for a year doing activities both enjoy. Meeting days and times are arranged by the two friends, so the schedule is very flexible. Six hours of training is provided before the friends first meet, and then 2 hours more four to six weeks afterwards, and then one hour monthly.

Driver: The Blind and Visually Impaired Center of Monterey needs volunteers to drive Orientation and Mobility instructors to and from clients' homes.

Hours are flexiible to accommodate the volunteer's schedule. Requirements include a valid California Driver's License, a good driving record, and automobile insurance.

Marine Mammal Rescuer: Moss Landing Marine Mammal Center needs volunteers to assist with rescuing injured marine mammals found on local beaches.

Must be able to carry up to 30 pounds over sand and uneven terrain. Ability to drive a standard transmission truck is also required. Volunteers must sign a medical waiver and be willing to work five hours per week.

Adult Literacy Tutor: The Monterey County Free Libraries Adult Literacy Program needs volunteers to provide two hours of tutoring per week to English-speaking adults. Tasks involve preparing lesson plans from program books and outside materials; tutoring students; checking homework; and assisting students in reaching his/her literacy goals.

Volunteers must have a high school diploma and need to be able to commit four hours per week including preparation time.
